The Port Authority tenders the construction and operation of an underground car park in El Puerto de Santa María

The project will allow the City to complete the urbanization of the river promenade on the right bank of the Guadalete River.

Friday, 27 September 2019. The Port Authority has put out to tender a tender for the granting of an administrative concession for the construction and operation of an underground car park on the right bank of the River Guadalete, in El Puerto de Santa María, service area of the Bay of Cadiz Port.

The project, presented today by the president of the Port Authority, Teófila Martínez, and the mayor of El Puerto, Germán Beardo, will allow the City Council to complete the urbanization and remodeling of the river promenade that runs along the right bank of the river, thus favoring the integration of this area in the historic center of the city.

According to the mayor, the remodelling, which will make it possible to change the image of the city, is part of the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) promoted by the City Council, endowed with 3.5 million euros, which aims to pedestrianize the river promenade in order to improve the use of green areas, endowments and in general the natural resources of the river.

This project is incompatible with the maintenance of the surface car parks, currently managed in private occupation by the municipal company Impulsa El Puerto and the Consorcio de Transportes de la Bahía de Cádiz.

In order not to reduce the parking spaces in the centre and not to affect commerce, the hotel industry or residents, the Port Authority and the City Council have agreed that the optimum solution is the construction of an underground car park on the right bank of the river, practically coinciding with the existing surface car park area.
According to the President of the Port Authority, the offer includes both the construction and the subsequent operation of the car park, on an area of 17,843 m2, with a concession term of 30 years.

The car park will have at least 450 spaces, 3 equidistant pedestrian accesses, duly adapted, along the Avenida de la Bajamar and the operation will be 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

The sheet provides season tickets, stands and places in usufruct regime, reserving 40 percent for residents, another 40 percent for rotation and 20 percent for users of the catamaran.

The execution period will not exceed 15 months. The project adds to the agreement recently signed for the development of the Puntilla and others that are to come in the agreement that both administrations maintain to continue improving the relations of the port with the city and also the port exploitation of the dock of El Puerto de Santa Maria.
