The ro-ro traffic with the Canary Islands, cruises, solid bulk and fishing concentrate the growth of port traffic until August.

The total general traffic in the Port of the Bay of Cadiz until August reached 2.69 million tonnes, 1 per cent less than in the same period last year. However, solid bulks, roro traffic, fresh fishing and cruises concentrated in this time a growth of between 6 and 20 percent compared to the first 8 months of 2017. Specifically, solid bulk traffic grew by 5.9 percent until August, accumulating 1.2 million tons of which 564,000 are cereals and flours, which grow 45 percent. Practically the same figures of last year in August present the liquid bulk, with 408,429 tons moved and a recovery over the previous month of 56 percent. This traffic, as is known, is directly related to Puma Energy’s activity at the La Cabezuela-Puerto Real dock. General merchandise, the third group according to the way the merchandise is presented, fell by 9 percent until August, reaching 956,989 tons. All in all, the total movement of goods amounts to 2.61 million tons, representing a decrease of 0.55 percent over August 2017. If the form of transport is taken into account, road traffic (with the Canary Islands) accumulates 611,099 tons, registering a growth of 5.49 percent, while container traffic (lolo) drops 23 percent, with 250,000 tons, mainly due to the decline in MSC activity. Fresh fishing, for its part, chains the third month in positive, scoring a rise until August of 7.15 percent, with 13,000 tons of fish that reached a market value of 29.5 million euros, 0.66 percent less than in August 2017. Cruise ships, for their part, recorded a growth of 20 percent in number of stopovers, with 190, and 18 percent in passengers, with 249,127. If the forecasts are met, the last quarter will host 128 cruise calls, which would reach 318 throughout the year, a record number.
